Who We Are

 Graeme has nearly a decade of experience teaching academic English and preparing students for standardized tests, particularly in the Cambridge CEFR system (FCE, CAE, CPE) and IELTS (Academic and General), and has also taught TOEFL, SSAT, and CELPIP. After graduating with a BA in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto, Graeme studied in Europe, where he got his MA. He then spent a year teaching in Japan as part of the JET Programme. He has also worked for the Olympics, and is a qualified career college instructor. Graeme is passionate about history, sports, and fantasy fiction, and is actively involved in politics. He strongly believes in making connections with learners and building personalized programs of study to meet each student’s unique needs.  

After completing his degree in political science and philosophy, Brock headed off to South Korea where he discovered a whole new world both culturally and professionally.  After spending a couple years helping high school students prepare for post-secondary studies and exams, he pivoted to education consultant for a firm which focused on the education and evaluation of Korea employees seeking to emigrate overseas.  Brock's approach to English-learning prioritizes critical thinking, collaborative engagement, and communicative competence.  Whether you are applying to university or looking for a new career, Brock's goal is to 'meet his students where they are' on their ESL journey and so enable them to communicate naturally and effectively in every forum - from the academic symposium to the water cooler. 

 As a career student, Jacob has pursued post secondary studies in subjects ranging from biochemistry to law. Over the last 25 years, in addition to completing degrees in Economics, computer science, and philosophy, he has also honed his skills in psychometrics and language acquisition. He has mentored hundreds of students who have gone on to achieve phenomenal results. By utilizing technology effectively, Jacob strongly believes that Aristotelian tutorship can be accomplished in today’s hectic digital age. His diverse background allows him to aid candidates master the art of reading and writing in a range of contexts. 

With almost 20 years of teaching experience both in Canada and overseas, Karen is motivated to help students achieve their academic goals. She has experience helping students hone their academic reading and writing skills and has taught English to a wide range of ages and levels. Karen has a keen interest in literature, language studies, and language acquisition, and she enjoys meeting students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

 After completing his Bachelor degrees in 2007 at the University of Victoria, John worked in corporate sales and marketing before heading off to South Korea to teach English. In South Korea, John caught the teaching bug and it has stuck. Since 2010, John has been teaching high-intermediate and advanced English with a focus on critical thinking, academic writing and autonomous learning skills. Whether you are interested in building academic skills for standardized tests or improving your corporate communication skills, John has the professional background and expertise to get you there.   

Tim is a 12-year teaching professional who specializes in Business English and CELPIP preparation. Over the course of his teaching career, he has trained over 5000 students through immersive, interactive, and authentic curriculum. His teaching experience in Japan and Taiwan, along with his bilingual background, allow him to create relatable and effective learning strategies for English learners. His focus on communication skills development will prepare new immigrants and international professionals alike for the ever changing business environment. 

Maryam is a passionate ESL teacher who has been teaching culturally diverse students of all levels and age groups for the past 21 years. She strongly believes in making connections with her students, which is her secret for being a successful teacher. She is an expert in teaching beginner and intermediate level English learners, tailoring lessons to target each student’s unique goals and needs. Maryam enjoys gardening, hiking, and reading self-development books in her free time.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Theatre, Brodie eventually found himself drawn to teaching. Upon completing his first TESL diploma, he began to tutor English for various companies and individuals. He enjoyed teaching so much that he honed his skills by completing Douglas College’s TESL program in 2015 obtaining employment in Vancouver that very same year. With roughly six years of experience, teaching levels from beginner to high-intermediate of all ages, Brodie strives to deliver the best learning experience, looking to build a rapport with his students to better suit their needs. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys playing video games, tabletop roleplaying games and volleyball.
